El Pilar Archaeology Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna
Belize & Guatemala.

The El Pilar Archaeology Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna straddles the border of Belize & Guatemala, just north of San Ignacio, Belize, in northeastern Central America. The site is remarkable for its diverse plant life and jungle animals. Most of the structures remain covered, which protects them from the elements and from looters. The canopy of trees remains largely intact, giving the site an unusual "enclosed" feeling. There is some controversy surrounding the site, as the native Maya population has been driven off the reserve.
